There is no doubt that business and golf go hand in hand when it comes to networking. I have found that playing golf is a great stress reliever. It also helps to keep me fit. Golf has also brought me long-lasting friendships as well as fantastic connections in business. Bonding during a game of golf seems to break the ice with my customers. More often than not, it leads to relationships that last a lifetime.

As a relaxing sport, golf offers plenty of chances for building relationships in a less formal environment than a board room. Many lessons can be learned from golf, too, from constant growth to honesty and perseverance. These can all help you within your business.

The Benefits of Business and Golf

One of the biggest and more obvious benefits of playing golf for business is the chance to network and forge relationships. Golf is all about friendly competition. As it has a relatively slow pace, there are plenty of opportunities to connect and talk. Connecting to other players – whether clients, prospective partners or even those within your industry – is an excellent way to build strong relationships in the business world.

There are also lesser-known benefits that can greatly impact your business in a positive way. One such benefit is the ability to increase your mental game. Like business, you need great discipline to succeed in golf. You are essentially refereeing your own game, which requires a high level of agility and focus. Like business, golf is all about overcoming challenges and improving your performance. There are ample chances to adapt and correct, improving as you go and re-strategising to improve your performance on the course and in the office.

Golf courses are designed to be scenic, spacious and calming. Playing a few rounds out in nature is relaxing. Playing with friends, associates and clients helps you have meetings in a place that is far more comfortable than a boardroom. There are also far fewer distractions.

Another major benefit of golfing for business is that anyone can play – young, old, pros, beginners, athletes, beginners, men, women, and anyone else. The handicap system acts as a great leveller, allowing everyone to enjoy the advantages of golf. You even have the chance to meet golfing legends, depending on where you play.

With the many benefits that come with business and golf, I always find time to spend a few hours on the course to network and connect.
